Brief History of Holistic Care-Approach
The holistic approach focuses on the whole person and not just parts of a person when treating individuals, (Nebelkopf & Wright, 2011). This approach has succeeded where other treament have failed in providing relief and healing. Interestingly, some historians have concluded that holistic approach extends to Hippocrates’s era because his philosophy included beliefs that the body and healing are intertwined. He believed that the body could assert some form of healing regardless of the disease or disorder that a person was being treated (Ventegodt & Joav, 2012). Due to the overall compacicty of treatment this approach offers, some researchers view the holistic care as “person-centered care" that includes a view of seeing the person as a whole rather than a fragmented parts” (Hayes & Hodson, 2011).
The holistic care method includes the cognitions, emotions, spiritual, social, and ecological components of an individual that contribute to an individual's schemas or worldview when more than one component is addressed, hope is extended and hope is a necessary and crucial when an individual is walking, recovering on a road to either healing or a thriving lifestyle (Ventegodt & Joav, 2012).

Many ethnic groups and cultures practice holistic care, for instance in the Asian culture, research has revealed to us that for centuries the Chinese culture use the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which is a holistic approach that consist of herbs to treat individuals for all sorts of ailments, to improve the overall health of people (Liang & Gong, 2014).
